Pick your own farms have always been something that send a wave of nostalgia over me whenever I think of them. As a child there was a farm not far from where I lived in Wiltshire that had the best pick your own fields I had ever been in. Full of fresh strawberries, blackberries, raspberries…you name it, it was there. I loved the idea of picking up your punnet from the farm shop and heading out into the open fields to see who can find the biggest and juiciest berries of them all (trying before you buy of course!) Since moving to London it’s been something I have severely missed during the summer months and finding a farm close enough to travel too easily was a lot harder than I imagined.
Crockford Bridge Farm in Surrey is a free to enter farm perfect for all ages which offer a pick your own experience in amongst their every growing fields. It offers all kinds of fruits and vegetables which you can go and collect and then pay for at the farm shop. Not only that, but they offer a massive garden centre (squeal!) A play area for children, a fresh sorbet shop and a little cafe, perfect for those summer months! In fact you could quite easily spend a whole day there just walking about and enjoying the fresh country air.
Around the farm it is extremely well signposted and there are plenty of fields for all to enjoy. The farm is very clean and well maintained by the people that take pride in working there. It’s completely off the beaten track, but I aim to make it my mission to let Londoners in particular know where to come to get fresh produce. I thought the fruit was extremely well priced for a whole punnet of fresh strawberries and very fairly weighed.
How cute is this bee house?!
They also make sure that all living creatures are well looked after such as bees which help to pollinate the produce that grows here. This is something I am really fond of, as without these little critters, where would our beautiful nature be?!
If you’re looking for something to do as the summer months draw to an end, find your nearest and dearest pick your own farm and pick up a punnet, or head down in Autumn to pick your own pumpkin!
I quite liked the look of these ones that made me feel all kinds of autumnal…!
