On the 18th July 2017 Ash and I set sail for a new week long venture and somewhere both myself and Ash had never been before. Portugal, Albufeira in the Algarve was what caught our eye online when we booked it back in February and it was exciting for us both to go somewhere new in Europe. Having not been on a proper holiday in two years (for me) it was really nice to be able to properly get away from the usual routine of life and fully indulge in something new.
We stayed in the Soldoiro Apartments, about a 30-40 minute quick transfer from Faro airport and literally 5 seconds from the beach and a 2 minute walk from the famous “Strip” of Albufeira. This was perfect for us as it held both things we wanted…A. To be right by the sea and B. Somewhere vibrant and fun that we could go out for something to eat and drink if we wanted the choice. We soon realised after being in Albufeira a few hours that this famous strip was perfect for people of ages 18-90! I am not even joking on this, there was literally something for everyone!
The Old Town of Albufeira was quieter but was still buzzing with different cultures, cute market stalls, a more family orientated beach and again, a vibrant holiday nightlife which attracted a lot of holiday goers during the summer months (as told to us by a local barman). We walked around Albufeira on the Sunday morning we were out there, although, when you’re on holiday you totally forget what day or even year you’re in as you’re taken back by everything and forget about reality for a little while.
The cobbled streets and fresh sea air was exactly what we needed. The weather was a crystal clear blue sky all week and on our last day it ended up getting up to 36 degrees Celsius!! Although we spent most of the hottest day in the shade (us Brits aren’t used to this heat), we still had a nice time finding the famous beach tunnel in the Old Town of Albufeira and taking the ‘TuristTrem’ around the coast.
We relaxed, and tanned it up by our hotel pool and local beaches, chatted to some of the locals and even met another English couple from London which ended up being a bit of a crazy night on the strip, ending up with us all running into the sea at 2am! Both of us came back to London feeling well relaxed and calmer from being away from busy London life. It was a perfect holiday and whilst there I couldn’t resist taking numerous videos to stitch together to create a Vlog for my YouTube channel and provide my blog with these gorgeous photos to remember our time there.
